Painting and decorating provide an opportunity to hone both your creative and practical abilities in a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Over the next five years leading to November 2019, job openings for painting trades workers are anticipated to be above average.

Painting trades workers are responsible for applying paint, varnish, wallpaper, and other finishing materials to protect, maintain, and beautify surfaces on buildings and structures. This work spans across both residential and commercial construction projects.

This course covers the foundational skills needed to thrive in this sector. During the course, students will:

  • Build expertise in colour matching.
  • Learn wallpaper application techniques.
  • Gain knowledge on applying special coatings and finishes.
  • Master surface preparation methods.
  • Understand various timber coatings and finishes.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Develop skills in reading and interpreting plans/estimating for both internal and external applications.

Course Requirements

  1. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Academic requirement: Completion of Australian Year 10 or an equivalent qualification from overseas.
  3. Proof of English language proficiency is required.

Accepted tests include IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: minimum 6.0 overall, with no individual band less than 5.5, or an equivalent test). The test result should be valid within two years of the visa application date.

Some educational institutions offer an in-house English placement test to meet the language requirements.

Exemptions are available in the following cases: – If you are a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland. – If you are enrolled in a primary course of study such as a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course delivered in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research program. – If you have completed at least five years of study in English in any of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
