The Electronic Instrument Trades Worker (342315) is currently listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Electrical instrumentation technicians are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the various components necessary to keep electronic machinery operating smoothly and efficiently.

With the increasing reliance on automation in many industrial sectors, which involves highly programmed electronic equipment performing tasks previously done by humans, these machines often face numerous challenges and require skilled experts to upgrade, modify, and resolve issues. The demand for instrumentation technicians is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Graduates will meet the educational requirements to work as electrical instrumentation technicians in Australia and will acquire skills in various areas of the trade, including but not limited to:

  • Participating in instrumentation and control work, as well as competency development activities
  • Applying occupational health and safety regulations, codes, and practices in the workplace
  • Fabricating, assembling, and dismantling utilities industry components
  • Troubleshooting problems in direct current (d.c.) circuits
  • Repairing and securing electro-technology equipment
  • Interpreting drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes, and specifications

Course Requirements

  1. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Academic requirement: Completion of Australian Year 10 or an equivalent overseas qualification.
  3. Proof of English language proficiency is required.

Accepted tests include IELTS, PTE, and others. For IELTS, a minimum overall score of 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5 is required. The test results must be valid within two years at the time of the visa application. Some institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test to fulfill the entry requirements.

Exemptions apply if:
– The applicant holds a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland.
– The applicant is enrolled in a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course taught in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research program.
– The applicant has completed at least five years of study in English in one of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
