Course Overview

Electrical Engineering Technician is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

Throughout the course, students will acquire technical expertise that enables them to offer advice in sales environments and gain practical skills in areas such as variable speed drivers, analogue and digital electronics, programmable logic controllers, and renewable energy. Upon completion, graduates will have the ability to design, assess, and enhance electrical systems and equipment.

Graduates will be proficient in several areas of electronic engineering, including:

  • Developing strategies to address environmental and sustainability challenges in the energy sector.
  • Fabricating, assembling, and dismantling components for the utilities industry.
  • Troubleshooting problems in direct current (DC) circuits.
  • Repairing basic electronic equipment by replacing faulty components.
  • Diagnosing issues in resonance circuits within electronic devices.
  • Applying physics principles to solve electrotechnology engineering challenges.
  • Identifying and repairing complex power supply faults.
  • Designing and developing advanced digital systems.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting communication systems.
  • Creating, entering, and verifying control programs for programmable controllers.
  • Providing engineering solutions for complex polyphase power circuit issues.

Course Requirements

  1. Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  2. Educational requirement: Completion of Australian Year 12 or its equivalent from another country.
  3. Proof of English language proficiency is required.

Accepted English proficiency tests include IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: 6.0 overall, with no band lower than 5.5, or an equivalent score). The test results must be valid within 2 years from the date of the visa application. Some educational institutions may offer an in-house English Placement Test that students can take to meet the language requirement.

Exemptions to this rule apply if:

  • You hold a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland.
  • You are enrolled in a primary course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course taught in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research program.
  • You have completed at least 5 years of education in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
