Course Overview

Bricklaying is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), making it a promising career in a growing industry.

Many people perceive bricklaying as a simple job, but it involves much more than just laying bricks. This occupation is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are physically fit, and prefer hands-on tasks. As a bricklayer, you will work on job sites for domestic, commercial, and public buildings, using materials such as clay bricks, concrete blocks, and mortar.

Throughout the course, students will learn how to interpret building plans, perform measurements, carry out masonry blockwork, construct veneer and solid brick walls, handle leveling and scaffolding, and use specialized tools.

The Certificate III in Bricklaying prepares students for a wide range of tasks in the building industry. Training will cover multiple aspects of bricklaying, including:

• Studying plans and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation methods
• Constructing decorative panels, feature walls, arches, and columns
• Laying bricks in rows, designs, and shapes, and spreading mortar between joints
• Embedding blocks in mortar and removing excess mortar
• Ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment
• Cutting, shaping, and polishing stones and bricks with machines and hand tools, and shaping bricks to fit irregular spaces

Course Requirements

1. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
2. Academic requirement: Completion of Australian Year 10 or its overseas equivalent.
3. Proof of English language proficiency is required.

Accepted tests include IELTS, PTE, and similar assessments. For IELTS, a minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5 is required. The test results must be valid within two years at the time of the visa application. Some educational institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test to meet the entry requirements.

Exemptions apply if:
– The applicant holds a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland.
– The applicant is enrolled in a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course delivered in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research program.
– The applicant has completed at least five years of study in English in any of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
