The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482) was a temporary visa that allowed skilled workers to work in Australia for an approved employer when no suitably qualified Australian worker was available.
The TSS visa aimed to address labour shortages by allowing businesses to sponsor foreign workers for roles that could not be filled by local talent.
Allowed full-time employment with a sponsoring employer.
Valid for up to four years, depending on the occupation.
Required employer sponsorship and nomination of an occupation from the skilled occupation lists.
As part of Australia’s migration strategy, the TSS Visa was replaced on December 7, 2024, by the Skills in Demand Visa, which introduces new pathways and conditions for skilled migration.
Short-Term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) – For occupations in demand for a short period.
Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) – For occupations critical to Australia’s long-term workforce needs.
With the new Skills in Demand Visa, there are expected changes in eligibility criteria, employer sponsorship processes, and visa conditions. If you are considering skilled migration, it’s advisable to check the latest visa policies from the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
