Permanent Employer Sponsored Visa – Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) – Subclass 186

The Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) – Subclass 186 visa is a permanent employer-sponsored visa that allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia permanently. Unlike the Skills in Demand (Subclass 482) visa, which is temporary, the ENS visa grants permanent residency (PR).

Key Features of the ENS 186 Visa

✅ Requires nomination by an Australian employer.
✅ Grants permanent residency (PR).
✅ Available anywhere in Australia (including Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane).
✅ Only available for certain eligible occupations and applicants meeting specific criteria.

Pathways to the ENS 186 Visa

1. Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream

For workers currently on a temporary employer-sponsored visa (e.g., Subclass 482 or former 457 visas) who want to transition to permanent residency.

Requirements:
Work Experience: At least 2 years out of the last 3 years in the nominated occupation.
Eligible Occupation Lists: Occupation must be on the MLTSSL, STSOL, or ROL lists.

2. Direct Entry (DE) Stream

For applicants who do not hold a temporary employer-sponsored visa and wish to apply directly for permanent residency.

Requirements:
CSOL Requirement: Occupation must be on the Core Skill Occupations List (CSOL) (not MLTSSL).
Skills Assessment: Must pass a skills assessment from the relevant authority.
Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience at the required skill level.

Which Stream Should You Choose?

  • If you are on a temporary employer-sponsored visa (e.g., 482 or 457) → Apply through the TRT Stream.

  • If you have not worked in Australia on a 482/457 visa but have the required skills and experience → Apply through the Direct Entry Stream.

This visa is a great pathway to permanent residency for skilled workers who have employer sponsorship. If you meet the criteria, it can be a fast track to settling in Australia permanently!
